According to the R.E. Council of England and Wales, ‘the ability to understand the faith or belief of individuals and communities and how these may shape their culture or behaviour, is an invaluable asset for children in modern day Britain.’

At Patcham Junior School, in line with Brighton and Hove’s agreed syllabus, our RE curriculum will promote empathy and understanding towards people of all or no faiths and cultures. We provoke challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life to encourage pupils to consider the world from a variety of religious and non-religious perspectives, reflecting on their own beliefs.

Children will develop a deepening knowledge and understanding about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. We teach children about Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Humanism and Atheism throughout a topic, reflecting on an overarching question that highlights the similarities between the religions. Children are encouraged to reflect on the similarities and differences between these religions and no religions, as well as the ways in which religious beliefs can influence the choices people make.
