Patcham Junior School has saved £21,761 in electricity costs since installing the solar panels in 2020, and reduced its CO2 emissions by 35.73 tonnes. This is equivalent to planting 559 trees saplings. (BHESCo Report 2025)
"THIS WEEK'S SUSTAINABILITY TIP"
Spring Gardening – Growing your own vegetables can reduce your reliance on carbon-intensive food supply chains. Home-grown food is generally fresher and more nutrient-dense, besides being way cheaper.
In the UK, 87% of households have access to a garden, while only 28% of adults are engaged in growing their own food (although there is a incremental interest).

What can you do?
· Apply for a local allotment – you can share it with someone too – or…
· ... plant in your own garden: veg patch, raised beds and planters, polytunnel, aquaponic & hydroponic, vertical walls… just choose the best for you!
· If you don’t have an outdoor space, grow food on your window sill!
It can be as easy as using old egg cartoons!
· Share your produce with your community
· Follow the Brighton Food Partnership, the Home Harvest movement or join the Royal Horticultural Society for tips for beginners
· Simply join a local organic food group/ scheme
Our Sustainability Plan page is regularly updated with all the steps Patcham Junior is taking towards Zero Net 2030, and you can find all weekly Sustainablility Tips added at the bottom of the page.
Please check our board at the main gate for more information on how you can help us:
