Geography

At Patcham Junior School, we aim to develop the children's knowledge of our local area and the wider world including the people, places and environments and locations. Children need to understand similarities and differences through the study of physical and human geography. Our geography curriculum is designed to engage and develop pupil’s curiosity and fascination about the world. We encourage them to ask questions of things beyond their lived experience.

Intent:

At Patcham Junior School, we aim to develop the children's knowledge of our local area and the wider world including the people, places, environments and locations. Children need to understand similarities and differences through the study of physical and human geography. Our geography curriculum is designed to engage and develop pupil’s curiosity and fascination about the world. We encourage them to ask questions of things beyond their lived experience.

Implementation:

Geography is taught through different topic units throughout the year which have been chosen to ensure coverage of KS2 national curriculum requirements.

Pupil’s will revisit and learn new geographical skills and knowledge in order to embed and deepen their understanding. All lessons are carefully planned to ensure all children are well supported and challenged. Opportunities for trips and visitors, which link to their topic, are made to enhance the learning experience for all children.

Impact:

The impact of our geography curriculum is that our learners are equipped with geographical skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the secondary curriculum and for life as an adult in the wider world. The children will be able to discuss their learning, pose and answer geographical questions and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through a range of activities.
